Thank you for joining me on my journey to publication.
Duffy Dies is set in a fictionalized version of Tyrrell County on North Carolina’s inner banks. The county is bordered in places by densely wooded wildlife sanctuaries that are home to black bears, wild boar, several varieties of venomous snakes, and the almost extinct red wolf. My mother’s family, going back for generations, is from this part of North Carolina. When I was a child my grandmother would tell me stories about growing up there. Her stories were full of venomous water moccasins and marauding bears with an occasional haunting thrown in for good measure. She was one hell of a storyteller. Those stories of “home” were so vivid that I grew up feeling like North Carolina was my home even though we were living in sunny southern California.
